On Thursday we spent ten minutes working in partners helping each other learn the alphabet! The students took turns being the teacher and flashing the cards to their partner. If someone didn’t know a letter, we talked about ways we can give them “clues” to figure it out in a positive way!

Reading to Self!
On Wednesday I introduced “read to self” and the kids had a chance to practice it. Reading to self is an important skill in developing a passion for reading! I asked the kids how they can read a book (some said mom or dad can read or that they can learn to read). As a class we came up with these three ways to read a book…
- Read the Pictures
- Read the Words
- Retell the Story
Yesterday, we had our first practice reading to ourselves. We are going to practice reading each day, trying to build up our stamina. Stamina is our ability to do something for a long period of time without getting bored or giving up. Today, we met our goal of one minute! We've recorded that on our stamina graph. Once we read our classroom goal of 10 minutes we will have a popcorn party! Check out our photos of great kindergarten readers below.

Kids as the Teacher
Today at the end of reading time, I let the children take turns being the teacher! They got themselves into small groups and took turns reading the big book “The Wheels on the Bus” to the other students.
Stations
This week we have been learning how to do “stations.” Here are a few pictures of some of the students at their station. Starting next week we will have “WIN” time Tuesday-Friday. WIN stands for “What I Need,” so we will be working on learning activities at the level of your child. Throughout the year we will do many different types of activities at our stations.
What are stations? Stations are when we group children into a group and have them rotate through different learning activities. The idea behind groups is so that a teacher can work with students in a small group while the other students are still learning at an independent learning activity.
Bunny my Honey
On Friday, we read Bunny my Honey and then created our own Bunny’s. Each bunny is so unique and different! Bunny my Honey is about a Bunny who gets lost and then finds his mom. We related this story to if we got lost at school, what we should or could do to get help.
