WIN/Daily 5

One of my favorite times during our day in Kindergarten is…WIN/Daily 5 Time. WIN stands for “What I Need.” I love this time because every student is being pushed and challenged in multiply ways! Here are a few photos from this week’s activities’.

Ordering Numbers

On Friday, we worked on a very hard skill! We cut out numbers 1-25 and glued them in order. The students have been working on ordering numbers 1-20 in class, the extra 5 numbers were a challenge!

Partner Math Game

This week we started learning about adding numbers together to find the sum/total. On Wednesday, the students worked with a partner to roll two dice, add all of the dots together, and graph the sum! The students worked so great on this lesson!

H is for Hot Chocolate

This week we’ve been learning about things that start with H. We filled our jar in class with all of our good clothes pins so we earned a hot chocolate party! We had a whole math lesson on hot chocolate. We created a tally chart, a bar graph, and a number sentence about how many of us did or did not like hot chocolate.

Muffin Math

This week we were working on number representation. One of our activities followed the book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin.” We called it Muffin Math. The Moose told us a number and we had to show that number two ways (with muffins and the number).

Game Time!

We just started working on adding one to another number. On Friday, the students worked with a partner. They took turns rolling the dice, one at a time. Then the other person had to role another dice. Together they would add that many linking cubes together to see what number those two numbers made together. J

Gingerbread Counting

021

In January, we have been focusing on counting by 5’s. The students had to help the gingerbread man get to his house by counting the gum drops by 5’s! I couldn’t believe how many students were able to do this independently! They even knew how to write all of those big numbers!
