Shape scavenger hunt

During the month of May the students are having more time to create projects with the iPad. During WIN time, groups are spending time creating. The first project they created was a summer fun pic collage with a chatter face. I will do my best to forward each project your child makes to you! Here is an scamp,e of the scavenger hunt. After they found he different shapes I our school, they take pictures of them and then create an iMovie of their shapes! Enjoy!

This project is one of my favorite writing projects! The class spent 2-3 weeks total on this project. We did lots of researching in books, encyclopedias, and online. We talked a lot about what is a creditable source! The students had a format they had to follow when completing this project. They rewrote their story over and over while adding new information each draft. After they wrote their final copy of the report, they then had to type it up, and create a poster. The students were given a rubric for what needed to be in each part of the project.

Stina the Storyteller

Our artist in residence, Ross Sutter, brought a friend from Norway with him to Roseau. She is neat, neat, neat, and neat! Stina is a story teller. She taught us about the culture and life in Norway. She's a kindergarten teacher who teaches kids age 1-6! She told us, that they learn how to use knives in school at the age of two. They only use sharp knives and not dull ones. Ask your child why they only use sharp knives....we were lucky enough to spend an hour with her! She even taught us a song in Norwegian. :)

Pioneer Week

What a fabulous three days we have had in our Pioneer Unit. We've spent an hour each day with our artist in residence, Ross Sutter. Each day the kiddos are becoming true pioneers. This unit is dear to my heart as I was lucky enough to e pertinence this same unit as a student. Who knew, 20 years later, I'd be experiencing the teacher side! I had no idea how silly/hard/uncomfortable kids had set thus she to dance boys and girls. I must say they have matured immensely in the three days!!

Speed! Is a favorite in our classroom by all students. It's a great game to increase awareness with multiplication and skip counting.

Stem

As a class, we spent the past two Fridays working on a STEM projects. The students were to create a structure out of glue, tape, and Popsicle sticks. We has bridges, tree forts, house, play house, and buildings. It was very fascinating watching them create. Some had purposefully thought out why, what,mans how....others just started building! They discovered that the ones that had a plan first, had a better base/structure and held up better.

Rocks and minerals

On Monday we were studying rocks and minerals in science. At the end of the activity the students did a quicklab to see which types of rocks and minerals scratch the easiest or the hardest They had to make predictions and then observe what happened with each one.

App of the day

Each morning, when the students arrive they find the app of the day up on the board. Within the groups they go ahead and grab an iPad and start on the activity. Today the students practice math facts at their level against a classmate at their level.
